The Take Off is the Bumpiest

Today marks one week from the completion of my season as Children's Ministry Director at my local church and the launching into full-time women's ministry as founder of CampaignP31 and CEO of Noble Character Ministries. Of course, if I told you everything has been smooth you wouldn't believe me, nor should you. The truth is that is has felt like the take off of a plane flyer directly through a storm. This storm is one of "unknowns", but the turbulence that comes from it is REAL. Figuring it out, working really hard, creating a plan, consistently executing, running your own show...it's A LOT! But I absolutely love it, am grateful for it, and love the space to get it wrong or get it right.

The difference between my new situation and flying is that it really isn't LIFE or DEATH. I mean if I make a mistake, I can recover. I know that God is with me as I pray and spend time in his presence, he gives me instruction. But if for some reason I get off course, God's grace and mercy, his rod and staff, are ready to comfort me. To protect me with one hand, and gently bring me back with the other. Although this is new territory for me, it is not the first time he has sent someone on an unknown journey. The faith hall of fame is filled with Noahs, Abrahams, Jonahs, Elisahs, Davids, Marys, and others who didn't know how it would work together or work out for them- but they trusted in the God of their mothers and fathers. And generation after generation God has been faithful.

Like the disciples, I am amazed at how when my faith is shaky, he keeps me grounded and confident. Like in Matthew 8:24- 27, 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. 27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” He that watches over Israel, and me, neither slumbers nor sleeps.
